I will describe a little about my background, interests, and philosiphies
regarding taxidermy.

I began my taxidermy journey in 2003. I had paid for several mounts prior, but I always seemed to notice that the mounts looked stoic or lifeless...like stuffed animals. I knew a more life-like appearance could be recreated via taxidermy.

I found a mentor in a local, well-known taxidermist (has over 30 years experience in the taxidermy industry). He taught me his way, and I felt as if I wasn't getting to the level of learning that I was striving for.

A real farce in any industry is that if a worker has been around for 30 years, he must be good. WRONG. He's possibly been exercising the same BAD habits for 30 years! If he's not going to seminars, or a member of any educative assocations, he's very likely to be stagnant in his methods and quality. This isn't always true. There are exceptions to all rules, but wouldn't you be more comfortable working with a taxidermist that is using the latest techniques?

Most people choose a taxidermist based on price only...which is a huge mistake! A lot of taxidermists use shortcuts on tanning, and cheat you by using inferior products to save themselves some money. Don't choose a taxidermist because he's cheap! There are very few taxidermists that are cheap, fast, AND good. If a taxidermist is truly good, and confident in his work, he'll likely charge accordingly.
